Resumo

The K parameter was created to limit the total number of ADA staked to one pool. The K parameter determines the saturation of stakepools. To calculate the saturation of stakepools you can take the total number of ADA and divide it by K. K is currently 500, and pool saturation is currently 74,551,771.86 ADA. Pool saturation will increase slightly each epoch as more ADA is minted each epoch from staking rewards.

K also has a large effect on a0. a0 is another Cardano protocol parameter that determines ADA staking rewards per epoch. a0 is currently set at .3. If a stakepool operator pledges the enough ADA to saturate their pool they earn 30% more ADA rewards per epoch. If you pledge half of the pools saturation then they earn 15% more ADA rewards. Smaller pledges have a higher impact on staking rewards with a k parameter that's higher.

Motivação

This governance action is by no means a suggestion of what Cardano protocol parameters should be modified to or if they should be modified at this time. The goal of this governance action is to increase governance participation before the next hardfork. You can register to be a dRep now with your own wallet, or delegate to another dRep today.

Justificativa

We believe that it's important to submit governance info actions to encourage community participation in Cardano's governance before more serious proposals are introduced. It's also important that people have a good understanding of what protocol parameters can change.

K should be increased to 1000 as the cardanoscan poll voted in favor of this parameter change in May 2023. https://cardanoscan.io/spo-polls/96861fe7da8d45ba5db95071ed3889ed1412929f33610636c072a4b5ab550211

Is there any easy to digest and clear educational material for people to understand the K (and any other relevant) parameter?

Deberia aumentar el valor, mejoraría y mucho la descentralización.

I really do think k should be increased because it increases decentralization, some should know that by now. But if it's going to increase, I would like to see that there is only one stake pool per person. So we need ids, I guess that's where prism comes in. I hate it when one person runs more than one stake pool. So unfair! Would be stupid to increase now because the ones who have skin in the game now, are just gonna create more stake pool for themselves. Pushing new comers out. I always had the dream of running my own stake pool. But the way it is now, is just so unjust. Wish it was a little bit more like bitcoin. Just plug and play. It's too tedious now. Most people choose the pools at the top if you use deadulus and others. No one is checking if the pool they are delegated to is saturated or not. Long story short, things should be automatic and fair. Straight plug and play. No loopty doops.

more education on k and "a" Knot for the voters is no question required, this has been spoken of in length years passed, Uhmed Did an Excel sheet that may be floating around to show the decay over time and effect of the additional pools.

I think this proposal was well presented and will show proof of participation. I understand some proposals are not manditory to vote on but intent and building confidence fall on both sides of the spectrum. Participation is important. Vote by absenteism is not a great start but completely acceptable as well.
