Philippine Cardano Community re-onboarding project
nathankanapi
Description
This proposal is for reawakening the now dormant Cardano Philippine community that has given up on the chain due to no Philippine events or representation. It will cover 6 IRL meet-ups for the next 12 months + attendance and IRL Cardano booth at 3 Philippine blockchain events. As the first time Filipinos witnessed any Cardano events within the country was in 2024, they have expressed a desire to further build up the community to compete with other chains that have used their significant financial backing to erase Cardano's presence from the Philippine market.
Problem Statement
One of the core values that seems to have been lost in the past few years is global community onboarding and building. In early 2021 when I joined Cardano, there were over 10,000 Filipino members of Cardano Philippines on Facebook. By late 2021, there were 5 Cardano Philippines pages. The largest one has 14,000 members, the smallest one has around 1400 members. Assuming there is a lot of cross-over, I'll say we can low ball estimate 20,000 Cardano Philippines members.
Where are these people today? In VC chains or in some unknown crypto start-up likely getting scammed.
Why? Because nothing that was talked about was delivered. There is no active community in the Philippines anymore. I can count on my hand about 3 communities that are trying to save the forest, start a farm and one that is for animal conservation. All of which nobody on Twitter or Facebook interacts with. No one even knows about these people except me.
And a lot of former Cardano community members that worked in our industry have moved on because no one is supporting the Filipino community. This needs to change if we actually want to follow the original vision of Cardano.
Proposal Benefit
Majority of people these days are traders that only look at number go up or number go down.
Nobody asks where the numbers come from or who is using the chain.
The benefit of this proposal is bringing back the people that basically advertised the chain by word of mouth in 2021, and used the chain to do things.
We had a lot of things built by the Philippine community. We had comics, free entry into an aquarium for NFT holders, games built on Cardano. They're all dead now because no one paid attention to them. We need people to use this chain. It's literally what drives the fees. Not only do stakepools and the treasury collect fees whenever the chain is utilized, the people using it teach their friends and relatives about it so they too can use it. Your ROI is literally bringing back the liquidity and community that thinks that Cardano is no different from any other scam Luna chain out there.
Key Proposal Deliverables
Reviving the Philippine Cardano community and onboarding other people that have been turned off by everything that has happened in crypto since the 2021 bullrun. You receive users and wider community participation. You will also directly receive exposure to the at least 20,000 Filipino users that no one in the western world knows about.
Cost Breakdown
Cardano PH Community Events (x 6) $8,700.00 Philippine Blockchain Week Booth $6,000.00 CVCPH 2025 Sponsorship (Visibility) $3,000.00 World Financial Innovation Series Booth $8,000.00 Additional Costs Related to Events $4,744.00 Marketing Collaterals $2,000.00 Miscellaneous $3,000.00 TOTAL $35,444.00
Resourcing & Duration
Team size is 2. It will be headed by me (Nathan Angelo Kanapi) and groundwork will be done be done by fellow Intersect member (James Gutierrez) who is also the Philippine alternate representative for Intersect and the Philippine Cardano community. Duration as I have mentioned above is 6 IRL meet-ups to discuss Cardano updates and governance + 3 Cardano booths at Philippine blockchain events where no Cardano representation was previously observed.
Experience
Me and James are both the Cardano Philippine representatives, and we both have had decades of event planning and hosting experience in different fields. Me in the food and entertainment industry + education sector working over a decade as a private caterer and language tutor, as well as the Manila Japanese Language exchange host for Duolingo in 2018-2020. James has worked is a professional wedding and party host. We know how to advertise and host events in the Philippines.
Maintenance & Support
There is no maintenance cost. If successful, it should create many opportunities to become self-funded by the Philippine community as they used to do in 2021. Increased participation in Cardano governance, also means they can now vote in favor of supporting other proposals that will benefit and enhance Cardano Philippine community.
Supplementary Endorsement
There are 14 thousand members of this facebook group and it's being run by 2 people. https://www.facebook.com/groups/121122099830870
If you want evidence of interest with this community, you will actually need to join the group and interact with people. Less than 0.01% of people know what a special working group or what a draft committee budget code even means as there does not exist an equivalent translation in Filipino and majority of Filipinos drop out by their 5th year of elementary school (if they even get a chance to study).
If you want evidence of how effective I am at this, ask the Cardano community like Dave Talbot, Cardano Whale, Taichi Yokohama, Oscar Hong, Maureen Wepngong, etc. People that have met me and seen firsthand what I do for the Philippine community. They will endorse this.
Roadmap Alignment
Our "product roadmap" was created for banking the unbanked and onboarding people that traditional finance failed. This is quite literally what this proposal is doing.

ADA stays above 0.60 USD upon reception of funds. As we don't want to pad our books or ask for inflated numbers, dips in price correlate to amount of meet-ups and blockchain events we can attend. Example: above 60 C, 6 meet-ups + 3 blockchain events. ADA = 30 C, 4 meet-ups + 1 blockchain event.

What promises were made and not fulfilled? What're those 14,000 users in this private Facebook group actually doing/talking about these days and how many are actually active/participate in meaningful discussions?
In Cameroon, I’ve seen how communities grow when given real world support. Six meetups, three events, and actual boots on the ground is exactly what works when Zoom calls won’t cut it. I’ve watched Nathan mobilize his community and hes great at it. We fund this, and we are not just betting on them, but also on 20,000+ users who already loved Cardano once and just need a reason to come home.
