Discussion Details
Grassroots communites and small projects networking & support
45b_cardano_enablement
Description
To address the "Problem Statement" above and materialize the "Proposal Benefit" we described, we would act as broken down in the "Cost breakdown" section below. Overall, after researching for communities/projects to form a small cohort of peers, we would act through a series of online calls to mix know how of different communities/projects, brainstorm initiatives and activities and support communities/projects as they realize them (forwarding half of the requested budget). The 45B team has included three types of initiatives where we could act as trailblazers, "buildling in public", constantly sharing and discussing our experience with other communities/projects.
Problem Statement
Cardano grassroots communites (especially of end users) and small projects (especially those not aimed at developers but at SMBs and end-users) who promote local/online events have so far been left in a blindspot (even considering MCC Community Hubs or any other alternative). The global "town hall" environment created in the Community Hubs WG proves troublesome to manage given the diversity of needs and even maturity of the participating communities. Overall, the CHWG won't be able to grant Community Hub administrator status to more than some 10 of 80+ applicants. Also, current CHWG unfolding work suggest that communities could be more productive if they were self-organizing in smaller cohorts with autonomy regarding how they exchange know how and set their goals and approach animate their community.
Proposal Benefit
With this proposal 45B.io steps forward to help kickstart/facilitate a pilot of a bottom-up way for a small cohort (up to 7) of grassroots communites and small projects to self-organize and deliver online and in-person events (45B included) as well as any other community activities. This model could help derive process/best practices for future/parallel cohorts. It would also explore the boundaries and nuance between purely end-user community groups of people and more SMB or product-oriented products when interacting with the public. This project could also yield new partnerships and collaboration and awareness between communities.
Key Proposal Deliverables
Addressing the points broken down in the Cost breakdown section below:
- Core coordination: Minutes and attendees of each weekly call; Overall final report of work/progress with communities/projects;
- Online themed onboarding events: Luma event sign-ups; Meeting artifacts including a screenshot;
- Online open hours: Luma event sign-ups; Meeting artifacts including a screenshot;
- In person event for SMBs: Luma event sign-ups; Meeting artifacts; Short video highlights;
- Supporting other communities/projects: Luma event sign-ups; Meeting artifacts including a screenshot; Standardized event/funds application report;
Cost Breakdown
- 45B: (weekly 1,5hr calls + async support) Core coordination (2/10ths of the budget): Survey existing communities in Cardano globally, creating a public directory in a simple format;Gather interest in participating in our cohort;Host and facilitate calls with communities and projects to exchange know how and discuss our approaches in interacting with the public;Chalenge and support participant communities as they organize events and community activities;
- 45B: (4 calls) Online themed onboarding events (1/10th of the budget): Directed at different real-world professionals (Marketing, Product, Governance/Politics, Economists, Universities, etc). This will entail specific "market research" and outreach/networking targeting these professional profiles.
- 45B: (6 calls) Online open hours (1/10th of the budget): liaising with our outreach strategy, we'll welcome support end-users in navigating dApps on Cardano, understanding the basics on tech and Governance, and orient them to funding and networking opportunities.
- 45B: In person event for SMBs (1/10th of the budget): liaising with our outreach strategy, we'll gather interest for at least eight weeks and welcome SMBs to Web3 and Cardano. This will be similar to the Cardano Summit '24 that we organized but taylored to a fresh audience of SMBs, so focusing more on Web3 use cases for their different industries, allowing time for hands-on onboarding/demos to the audience, and overall Q&A.
- Supporting other communities/projects (5/10ths of the budget): Over the course of the Core coordination calls, we'll brainstorm with up to seven other communities/projects how they can venture in raising the bar on their current practices. This portion of the budget will be routed to them as their initiatives take place, having oversight by 45B and aiming to be in agreement / peer validation by other participants.
Resourcing & Duration
45B's team is composed of Lucas as a facilitator/educator, Anselmo a video expert/editor, Bruno and Mónica as community support, Ana as a social educator, Nuno in Web/3D Design and e-commerce, amongst others. The group works on a flexible per request basis as needed. We would plan to deliver this project throughout the second half of 2025.
Experience

Maintenance & Support
Not applicable. 45B's team will be available async or to go over learnings if useful to other similiar cohorts.
Supplementary Endorsement
I'm unsure between GMC's "Events Management & Marketing (Community-led events)" budget line, GMC's "Community Management", or MCC, but probably the first one. I've mentioned the initiative and outline in a GMC open call and got a positive sentiment, but we didn't get into details.
