Description

EchoFeed solves critical data accessibility challenges in Cardano's DeFi ecosystem by providing reliable market data infrastructure. While basic price feeds exist, developers and researchers lack accessible tools for robust analysis, historical data aggregation, and custom index creation. Our solution delivers transparent APIs and WebSocket streams through an open-source framework, enabling collaborative improvement while serving diverse ecosystem needs. By addressing these fundamental data challenges, EchoFeed empowers the creation of sophisticated decentralized applications. EchoFeed provides real-time and historical market data from both centralized and decentralized exchanges through APIs and WebSocket connections. Our infrastructure prioritizes reliability and transparency while maintaining the low-latency performance required by modern dApps. This proposal enhances EchoFeed's capabilities by developing advanced aggregation features and index tools that will enable novel DeFi products, derivatives, and risk management solutions while maintaining decentralization principles. We will also research the expansion to diverse data types including weather patterns, real-world events, and alternative financial data, developing flexible ingestion frameworks. This exploration will lay the groundwork for supporting next-generation use cases like parametric insurance and event-driven contracts.

Problem Statement

EchoFeed introduces institutional-grade market data infrastructure to Cardano, enabling new categories of financial applications that require reliable feeds, historical data, and advanced analytical tools. While basic pricing data exists today, developers building complex DeFi products may face fragmented sources or inconsistent quality for creating custom indices or aggregated views - forcing teams to dedicate significant resources to data engineering rather than innovation. By providing comprehensive APIs and WebSocket streams specifically designed for blockchain-native analysis, EchoFeed removes these barriers while creating the foundation for next-generation financial applications on Cardano.

Proposal Benefit

For Builders: EchoFeed empowers dApp developers with reliable market data and flexible aggregation tools, eliminating the need to build and maintain complex data pipelines. This allows teams to focus on core product innovation rather than infrastructure challenges, accelerating development cycles for sophisticated DeFi applications. For Researchers: The platform provides historical datasets and analytical capabilities, enabling deeper market analysis and strategy testing. Academics and quantitative analysts gain access to normalized, blockchain-native data streams that support financial research on Cardano's ecosystem. For Oracle Providers: EchoFeed serves as a high-quality data source that oracle services can integrate, improving the reliability and diversity of on-chain data feeds. By handling the heavy lifting of data aggregation and quality control, it allows oracle projects to focus on secure blockchain delivery mechanisms. This project incorporates MIT-licensed open-source components designed to enable transparent work that can be reused by the community.

Key Proposal Deliverables

Data aggregation tools. Index tools to enhance market insights. Research Infrastructure capable of expanding to support diverse datasets, such as weather patterns, governance events, and sports results. Comprehensive Documentation including guides, API references, and troubleshooting manuals

Cost Breakdown

Advanced aggregation features - $20,000 USD Index tooling - $25,000 USD Research on expanding data types - $20000 USD Documentation - $5000 USD

Resourcing & Duration

2 Part-Time Developers: Dedicated to the development, implementation, and deployment of EchoFeed for the duration of the project. 1 Part-Time Engineer: Post-deployment, half the capacity of an engineer will be allocated for ongoing maintenance and support.

Experience

Our team has successfully developed and deployed EchoFeed as part of the Wolfram-powered Catalyst infrastructure, currently available for community use. This operational foundation demonstrates our capability to deliver and maintain reliable market data services for Cardano. Building on this proven system, we’ve refined our data pipelines, exchange integrations, and API architecture—experience that directly informs EchoChain’s development

Maintenance & Support

WBL is committed to maintain a sustainable market data service for the Cardano ecosystem. After launch, we will provide ongoing support including API performance monitoring and regular system updates for at least one year. Our team will actively address technical issues and implement any required software updates.

Supplementary Endorsement

EchoFeed builds upon the community-endorsed Wolfram Price Feed Infrastructure (Fund 11 Catalyst winner). This existing foundation validates EchoFeed’s approach while ensuring we deliver tangible value from day one.

Key Dependencies

Centralized Exchange (CEX) Data Access: Aggregating pricing data requires consent from centralized exchanges, as some have restrictions on the use of their data. Negotiating access and ensuring compliance with their terms of use is essential. Decentralized Exchange (DEX) Data Certification: Collaboration with decentralized exchanges is necessary to certify that pricing data is being collected accurately to ensure the integrity of the data feed.

The proposal was not sufficiently convincing for me - in terms of the need for its inclusion in the 2025 annual budget. Just my impression after reading it. We won't be able to fund all submitted projects and this one did not stand out as a necessity to me at this point in time. Maybe Catalyst could provide an alternative avenue if Catalyst is approved. I appreciate Wolfram Blockchain Lab's contributions to the Cardano space.
