Description

This proposal aims to strategically position Cardano as the blockchain of choice in Africa by establishing three fully operational Cardano Community Hubs in Lagos (Nigeria), Nairobi (Kenya), and Douala (Cameroon). These cities represent the epicenters of Web3 innovation in both Anglophone and Francophone Africa, and this initiative is designed to deliver not only infrastructure but long-term ecosystem value by localizing Cardano adoption, education, and developer engagement.

NODO, leveraging its deep presence in the African Web3 landscape, will lead the design, launch, and operational management of the hubs. Each Cardano Community Hub will serve as a multi-functional center—acting as a:

  • Community Anchor: Hosting meetups, user onboarding sessions, Cardano wallet setup drives, and open forums for education and feedback.
  • Enterprise Gateway: Facilitating introductions, onboarding sessions, and ecosystem alignment with Web3 startups, fintech firms, and blockchain innovators across Africa.
  • Developer Incubator: Running Cardano-focused technical programs including coding workshops, smart contract tutorials, and engineering sprints.

Over the course of 12 months, the program will be structured around three strategic goals:

  1. Visibility & Awareness: Position Cardano as a Known & Trusted Brand Through monthly AMAs featuring Cardano thought leaders, product builders, and local innovators, the hubs will serve as content engines to amplify Cardano’s vision. With a combined reach of 1 million+ live listeners and recorded media syndication through NODO’s owned and partner channels, this activity will expand Cardano’s voice across the continent.

  2. Ecosystem Activation: Drive Enterprise and User Onboarding Each hub will serve as a regional onboarding node for Web3 startups, developer communities, and enterprise partners. NODO has engaged with over 2,000+ companies and founders across the continent. This program will convert that pipeline into active Intersect members, ADA wallet holders, and Cardano-aligned projects. Deliverables will include:

  • Quarterly Cardano meetups at each location (12 events total)
  • Tailored onboarding campaigns for startups and enterprise use cases
  • Localized educational content and on-site guidance for setting up and using Cardano infrastructure
  1. Engineering & Innovation: Cultivate Local Developer Talent Africa is home to one of the world’s fastest-growing developer populations. However, many local engineers remain disconnected from the Cardano ecosystem due to a lack of localized technical resources and programming support. Through dedicated Cardano Hubs, this initiative will:
  • Establish Cardano engineering programs to teach Haskell, Plutus, and Marlowe fundamentals
  • Organize code sprints, dev hangouts, and technical AMAs
  • Support African developers in launching dApps, research papers, or CIP proposals

This will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Cardano ecosystem, while amplifying African developer representation in global innovation.

  1. Why This Matters for Cardano Africa represents a unique and high-potential frontier for blockchain adoption—marked by a young population, increasing smartphone penetration, and a thriving entrepreneurial spirit. Yet despite this growth, Cardano lacks a consistent, physical presence in the region. This proposal is not just about setting up hubs; it’s about building trust, access, and activity pipelines across the continent. It’s about transforming latent interest into measurable engagement—10,000+ new ADA wallets, dozens of enterprise collaborations, and a new generation of Cardano developers. With NODO’s established community, marketing, and technical reach—450,000+ users, 8 million+ page views, 100K+ Twitter followers, 80K+ Telegram followers—this initiative is uniquely positioned to succeed. The proposed hubs will become the go-to resource for all things Cardano in Africa. By investing in local infrastructure, technical education, and on-the-ground relationships, this program will directly contribute to Cardano’s mission of building an inclusive, decentralized future.

  2. Strategic Locations: Nigeria, Cameroon and Dubai The Web3 ecosystems in Nigeria, Cameroon, and Dubai are growing and becoming important in the global technology landscape. NODO's expertise and partnerships played a role in selecting these regions, which will be explored in depth along with the reasons for their selection.

<Nigeria: Africa’s Web3 Powerhouse>

  • Rapid Market Growth: Nigeria's crypto transaction volume reached $56.7 billion between July 2022 and June 2023, marking a 9% year-over-year growth—the fastest in Africa .
  • Youthful, Tech-Savvy Population: With over 60 million individuals aged 18–34 and a median age of 17.2 years, Nigeria boasts a large, digitally native demographic driving Web3 adoption
  • High Crypto Awareness: A 2023 survey indicated that 99% of Nigerians are aware of cryptocurrencies, surpassing awareness levels in countries like the U.S. and U.K.
  • Regulatory Evolution: The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced guidelines for digital asset platforms, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has begun permitting licensed fintechs to offer crypto-related services
  • Innovative Projects: Initiatives like Wicrypt are deploying decentralized WiFi hotspots, addressing connectivity challenges and showcasing Nigeria's capacity for Web3 innovation.

<Kenya: The "Silicon Savannah" of Web3 Innovation>

  • High Cryptocurrency Adoption: Kenya stands as one of Africa's leading cryptocurrency markets, with approximately 6 million crypto users. This positions Kenya second only to Nigeria on the continent in terms of crypto ownership.
  • Mobile Money Integration: The widespread use of mobile money platforms like M-Pesa has cultivated a culture of digital transactions. This foundation facilitates the seamless integration and acceptance of Web3 solutions, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi).
  • Growing Web3 Startup Ecosystem: Kenya hosts a burgeoning number of Web3 startups addressing local challenges;
  • Pezesha: A digital lending marketplace connecting SMEs with investors, enhancing financial inclusion.
  • Kotani Pay: Provides crypto-to-fiat conversions for unbanked populations, enabling access to financial services without internet connectivity.
  • Melanin Kapital: A digital platform for solar irrigation, solar-powered retail, and electric mobility
  • Supportive Regulatory Environment: Kenya is drafting policies to regulate the cryptocurrency market, aiming to provide clarity and security for investors and users. The introduction of the Kenya Virtual Assets Service Providers (VASP) Bill signifies a move towards a structured regulatory framework.
  • Tech-Savvy Population: With 85% smartphone penetration, Kenya's population is well-equipped to adopt and utilize Web3 applications, fostering an environment ripe for innovation.
  • Educational Initiatives and Events: Conferences like the Kenya Blockchain and Crypto Conference (KBCC) provide platforms for knowledge sharing, networking, and showcasing blockchain innovations, further nurturing the Web3 ecosystem.

<Cameroon: A Francophone Gateway to Web3>

  • Strategic Positioning: Cameroon serves as a bridge between Anglophone and Francophone Africa, making it a pivotal entry point for Web3 projects targeting French-speaking markets.
  • Investment Initiatives: The country is actively seeking investments in sectors like renewable energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, areas where blockchain can enhance transparency and efficiency.
  • Emerging Ecosystem: While still developing, Cameroon's interest in technological advancement and its efforts to attract foreign investment indicate a growing openness to Web3 solutions.

Problem Statement

The Cardano ecosystem in Africa currently lacks localized, physical community hubs that can consistently engage developers, educate users, and onboard both grassroots participants and enterprise partners. Despite Africa’s rapidly growing Web3 user base—particularly in English-speaking hubs like Nigeria and Kenya, and in Francophone regions like Cameroon—Cardano’s brand visibility, wallet adoption, and developer network are underrepresented compared to competing ecosystems.

This proposal addresses three key problems:

  1. Lack of permanent Cardano community infrastructure in high-growth African countries.
  2. Low visibility and onboarding of Cardano among thousands of local Web3 projects and startups.
  3. Weak technical engagement with African developers and engineers who could contribute to Cardano’s ecosystem.

Proposal Benefit

NODO, Web3 ecosystem expansion platform for emerging markets, has onboarded 450,000 users (majority of them are from African countries) and major partnerships within the Web3 ecosystem to Cardano ecosystem in Africa and drive the long term adoption and growth of the Hub-based system globally. NODO can bring the following benefits to the Cardano Community.

  1. Ecosystem Expansion in Underserved Markets
  • Establishing Cardano Hubs in Lagos, Nairobi, and Douala will provide consistent, physical spaces for education, events, and developer collaboration.
  • These hubs will serve as a launchpad for engaging Africa’s fast-growing tech-savvy population with Cardano use cases.
  1. Tangible Adoption & Growth
  • With monthly AMAs and quarterly offline meetups, the program expects to engage over 1 million live listeners and 10,000 new ADA wallet addresses within 12 months.
  • The reach extends beyond NODO’s 430,000 registered users and 8M+ site views, tapping into over 2,000 Web3 projects from NODO/Adaverse’s network.
  1. Enterprise and Developer Activation
  • Strategic outreach will onboard dozens of African Web3 startups, partners, and developer teams to the Cardano ecosystem.
  • The program will lay the foundation for a sustainable Cardano engineering community, contributing to open-source tools, DeFi primitives, and dApp development on Cardano.
  1. Measurable ROI for the Cardano Community

I recommend contacting the CHWG and merging it with the Community Hub proposal.

Apr 30, 2025, 08:13 AM UTC

While we do value and support initiatives that look to establish and grow Cardano's presence in Africa, we believe the Community Hubs WG under the MCC have a great plan for establishing hubs acrosss the globe and the proposal team should consider collaborating given the established support.

This proposal by NODO to set up Cardano Community Hubs in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon is super exciting It’s all about bringing Cardano’s blockchain magic to Africa, where the Web3 scene is buzzing. These hubs will be like local hangouts for learning, coding, and getting more folks especially devs and startups on board with Cardano. NODO’s got serious cred from working with big names like Tether, and their plan to hit 10,000 new wallets is bold! People love the vibe but want clearer budgets and local partnerships to keep it real. It’s a big step for Cardano to shine in Africa.

This is a well-thought-out and strategic plan to grow Cardano in Africa. The idea of setting up Cardano community hubs in Africa especially in Lagos, Nairobi, and Douala sound like smart choices, especially since the Web3 scene is buzzing in those places. The way this proposal integrate education, community events, dev training, and startup outreach feels like a solid approach. With NODO’s track record and local reach, looks like a strong opportunity for growing the ecosystem in a meaningful way.

Cardano Wants to Grow in Africa Cardano is proposing a project to build community hubs in Africa, specifically in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon. These hubs will help people learn about Cardano, use its technology, and develop new projects.

What They Want to Achieve

  1. Get more people involved: They want to educate people about Cardano and get more users.
  2. Help businesses: They want to work with local businesses and startups to build new projects.
  3. Support developers: They want to help developers build new applications on Cardano.

How They'll Do It

  1. Meetups and events: They'll host meetups and events to educate people about Cardano.
  2. Work with businesses: They'll work with local businesses to build new projects.
  3. Teach developers: They'll teach developers how to build on Cardano.

Why Africa? Africa is a great place for Cardano to grow because:

  1. Many young people: Africa has a large young population that's interested in technology.
  2. Growing tech industry: Africa's tech industry is growing fast, and Cardano wants to be a part of it.

Overall, the project aims to build a strong Cardano community in Africa and help the technology grow. This proposal is not only feasible but also impactful. It shows how Cardano can position itself as a key platform for the next wave of blockchain innovation in Africa. I fully support this proposal and believe it deserves funding and visibility within the broader Cardano community.

The Nodo proposal is a strong initiative aimed at empowering Africa’s Web3 ecosystem by fostering developer communities, boosting adoption, and ensuring sustainable engagement through localized hubs and measurable community impact.

This proposal to establish Cardano Community Hubs in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon is a critical step for the ecosystem’s growth in Africa.

timothyayomide67

This proposal from NODO to establish Cardano Community Hubs in Lagos, Nairobi, and Douala is a timely and highly strategic initiative that directly addresses some of the key challenges limiting Cardano’s growth in Africa. The lack of a consistent, physical presence in high-growth African tech centers has long been a gap in the ecosystem, and this proposal presents a well-resourced and clearly structured plan to close that gap.

What stands out most is the alignment between NODO’s proven track record and the needs of the Cardano community. With over 450,000 registered users and experience executing major campaigns for global Web3 players like Tether, ICP, and Canza Finance, NODO clearly understands how to activate communities, drive user engagement, and scale impact. Their proposal goes beyond simple marketing—it builds long-term infrastructure that supports wallet adoption, developer training, and enterprise integration.

The commitment to onboarding 10,000 new ADA wallets, hosting regular AMAs with wide reach, and training hundreds of developers in Cardano-native tools like Plutus and Haskell shows a serious, metrics-driven approach to ecosystem building. These are not vanity metrics; they represent tangible progress toward a stronger, more decentralized, and developer-rich Cardano network in Africa.

Furthermore, the hub-based model supports decentralization not just ideologically, but practically—by putting resources and leadership in the hands of local communities. The inclusion of both Anglophone (Nigeria, Kenya) and Francophone (Cameroon) regions further demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the continent’s diverse dynamics.

Overall, this proposal is not only feasible but also impactful. It shows how Cardano can position itself as a key platform for the next wave of blockchain innovation in Africa. I fully support this proposal and believe it deserves funding and visibility within the broader Cardano community.

This proposal to establish Cardano Community Hubs in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon is a critical step for the ecosystem’s growth in Africa. The continent’s tech-savvy youth, booming crypto adoption, and entrepreneurial energy make it a goldmine for blockchain innovation—yet Cardano lags behind competitors here, we can talk about the case of SUI where adoption is gaining momentum. Physical hubs in Lagos, Nairobi, and Douala could bridge this gap by offering localized education, developer support, and enterprise partnerships. NODO’s proven track record shows they’re equipped to execute this vision.

This proposal demonstrates a deep understanding of the market needs in africa that the Cardano ecosystem currently serves. However, there are shortcomings in this proposal, namely the long-term sustainability is not clear. The long-term financial model for operating hubs after the initial implementation phase needs to be better articulated, how these hubs will generate value and support themselves

NODO’s Cardano Hub plan for Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon is a smart move to tap Africa’s Web3 boom, but it needs a clearer budget and timeline. The developer focus is great, though ambitious goals like 10,000 wallets demand robust local partnerships to truly shine.

Africa is a crucial space for crypto renovations. she has many many enterprises and is leading on crypto expressially Nigeria. I agree to this proposition and I wish cardano comes to Nigeria. solana already has a high pace in Nigeria almost everybody at least 80% of Nigerians who are into crypto have solana in their wallets. so if cardano applies what are red over the page I think cardano will even increase it user but at least 100,000 new wallet and much more transactions. Nigeria is the base and it's rising drastically I think in the next 10 years Nigeria will have over 1 trillion usd made from crypto. as web3 evolves Africa evolves with it so I attest that this application be approved thank you.

  1. Is it possible to integrate with something like the MCC Community Hub proposal? Perhaps without such an effort there would be fragmentation of the hub and duplication of work.

  2. The proposal includes training 500 developers and engaging 50+ active ones. How is “active developer” defined and measured—through CIP submissions, tool development, or GitHub contributions?

  3. Several X (Twitter) Spaces are linked, but can you provide specific engagement metrics—such as listener counts, reposts, and interactions with established Cardano community leaders?

  4. You mention outreach to 2,000+ African Web3 projects. Can you name specific projects that have already started integrating with Cardano, and clarify their current phase (e.g., PoC, pre-launch, launched)?

  5. Has this proposal been adequately socialized across the wider Cardano community—such as on the Cardano Forum, Telegram, or Reddit? Are there endorsements or specific feedback from SPOs, developers, or DReps?

  6. How does this initiative differ from NODO’s past campaigns with Tether or ICP? Based on past successes or challenges, what factors increase the likelihood of success for this Cardano-focused proposal?

  7. What is the sustainability plan for the hubs after the 12-month funding ends? Will they be sustained through self-funding, revenue models, or community transition (e.g., DAO governance or fellowships)?

  8. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I believe EMURGO has a $100 million fund in Africa. Would it be possible to raise funds from there?

"Failing to prepare is the same as preparing to fail!"

The sentence above doesn’t really match with the context of this proposal.

Africa is a sweet spot for communities to grow bigger, because as far as I know, there are programs like the African Blockchain Championship (I know this isn’t the main target of this proposal, but if this program goes well, maybe Cardano could have a position there too). So we can imagine how big the community could become.

As we know, universities have a massive reach, so Africa—especially these countries and cities—are perfect places to build and grow communities. This can also be seen from the number of Cardano followers and users, which are in the thousands.

The three selected cities seem super promising based on their background and potential. I’m convinced this program will be successful.

This is a very good idea. Choosing three countries that do have fast web3 community development, besides in three cities that do have a lot of population.

I suggest maybe NODO needs to collaborate with local communities or educational communities such as high schools or colleges, so that the foundation is strong.

Related to the project, maybe monthly monitoring and evaluation (monev) needs to be held so that the development can be seen.

A solid and timely initiative! One suggestion would be to include clear KPIs to track success over the 6-month period. Transparency on measurable outcomes could strengthen the community’s trust and backing. Looking forward to seeing this come to life!

For me, this proposal gives an impactful strategy to expand Cardano in Africa to promote community engagement and education. And in my own opinion, I would say that Nodo happens to be the best choice of a platform to be used in this proposal because Nodo currently have the best existing network and the right partnerships in Africa to build an engaging community.

As someone from a similar emerging market, I believe this proposal has strong potential. The multi-hub approach could create a powerful network effect, and the focus on developer training is particularly valuable. However, I would recommend: more emphasis on mobile-first solutions; clearer strategies for dealing with regulatory differences; and more detailed on local partnership plans. The budget and timeline seem realistic based on my experience with similar projects in Southeast Asia. I would vote in favor of this proposal while suggesting the above additions. What also interests me is how NODO learnings could be adapted to other emerging markets like Indonesia. Their approach to community building and developer education could offer valuable insights.

I think this is a big move from NODO to establishing Cardano Community Hubs in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon with backed by strong and credible team experience in large scale campaign like Tether and ICP. The proposal is well written and structured with clear timelines and milestones.

Nigeria and Kenya are strong choice because this country have a high cryptocurrency transcation and Web3 adoption with youthfull and tech-savvy population. But, i think Cameroon feels under justified and yet offers little evidence of active Web3 community, developer base, or crypto adoption levels compared to countries like Ghana, South Africa, or Côte d'Ivoire. If Cameroon is strategic and experimental choice, please provide more data on developer communities like cryptocurrency adoption and Web3 community.

With detailed and clear budget ~$485,525 over 12 Months key objectives to increase visibility & awareness of Cardano through community events, AMAs, and content outreach, activate the ecosystem by onboarding Web3 startups, fintechs and users to the Cardano platform and develop local talents via engineering programs, workshops, and developer support initiatives. I think this project will be very successful if accompanied by monthly financial reports and transparency regarding the use of funds, as well as progress updates for each project being carried out.

For long term impact, this project initiative aims to establish Cardano as a trusted brand and developer-friendly ecosystem in Africa by converting interest into realmworld adoption, building talent pipelines, and forging enterprise partnerships.

notes for this project:

Target audience: I think for target audience should be more focus at the project beginning. Why? Since we focused on something, we can mastering that skill instead of aiming all things and not focused. So I think focused is better Impact: The impact was great. Particulary for people who have no knowlegede about crypto. By this project they can get smarter and educated. Also for Nodo Project will impact so good. Sadly, I don’t see positive side for Cardano Feasibility: The Feasibility was so good. Since the project team is from local that so long live in here. They has good understanding about culture and habits of local community. This will procjet efectife

Value for money:

I have no comment about budgeting for this project, i think everything run so fine so far. But, u have to notice about volatilyti price of ADA. The price could move time by time. In this proposal ADA = 0.5 usd. But when I write this ADA price is 0.6 approximately. This price change is so vaital to this project lifespan. Particullary in financial part. That’s why you have to plan a adaptive strategy to solve this problem.

Success metrics: I think this project will be success. Since this project is handeled by local people that have experience at the same skillset. That we know they has good understanding about culture and habits of local community. Couse the target audience is local community

Your proposal for establishing Cardano Community Hubs in Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon through NODO is strong, comprehensive, and backed by relevant experience and measurable outcomes. The structure flows logically, the goals are clear, and the benefits to the Cardano ecosystem are well-articulated.

Clear Problem Statement You clearly define the lack of physical infrastructure and engagement in high-growth African regions. This helps establish urgency and relevance.

Concrete Deliverables & Milestones The breakdown into quarterly milestones makes it easy to evaluate progress and provides confidence in execution.

Strong Ecosystem Fit The proposal aligns well with Cardano's strategic goals, especially around adoption, education, and decentralization in emerging markets.

Proven Track Record Past experience with Tether, ICP, Canza Finance, and Fonbnk adds credibility. The specific outcomes (listeners, wallet creation, etc.) are great for trust-building.

Cost Breakdown Transparency A detailed financial breakdown helps reviewers understand how funds will be used and justifies the budget.-
